Bicycle Storage Precedent

Hi all,
Hope your week is going well! While I was researching some precedent of bike transit centers, I came upon this very interesting (and somewhat humorous) video of a super bike storage machine designed in Japan. Enjoy!

                                                                    Charlestown Navy site

                                                                Gates of Charles Diagrams

                                                      Government Center first diagrams

In my trip from government center to Charles town Navy yard i realized that there were three main parts with different urban attribution. The first was my initial destination. The main things i saw were the centralized spaces. All the buildings are arranged around a main court which is accessible at all its sides. After this experience i went through narrow open spaces where the wind was an obstacle, but the view was amazing (The gate of Charles). My destination was the Charles town Navy. I arrived there through narrow small bridges. The destination space was large, but not as dense as government center. I feel the construction site which had an amazing view implemented in front. I posted some of my first sketches to show my first impressions. I am working with my analysis.

Mixed Media

Have a look at the way that this student used photographs, photoshop, and his sketching skills to articulate his findings of the M.I.T. quad.

This is a quick sketch I did right before you enter the site. It is across the street from the architecture building at MIT near the bus stop structure. I found out after two visits that students tend to crowd around this area, group up and talk among one another. The cars slow down at that road creating a usual threshold into and out of the space. The sculpture near the site is engaged in a different way only through photography, touching, and visually seeing. The sidewalks are used differently with the sidewalk going towards the chapel being used the most since its under the shelter of the trees. The more linear sidewalk is less used and has more exposure to the sun. More observations to come with a couple more visits.

Let me know what you think,
